Magical Morning Moment in Brentwood: Discovering Makeup & GO!

Every morning as my commute brings me into Brentwood while listening to NPR or my most recent audiobook, I begin to wonder if the parking and coffee gods will align and grant me a morning of the most delectable treat: a Chai latte.

It all depends on whether or not I can park with ease out front of the Starbucks.  Lo and behold, as I wait at the traffic light, up ahead in the distance I can see it: a parking spot!

I have already counted my change and can practically taste the piping hot tea when — no, it can’t be! — another car zooms around the corner and glides into MY spot.  Discouraged and dismayed that I was so close, I keep driving, almost completely having given up on my dream.

But, wait!

Just as I step on the gas, a car pulls out of a parking spot just ahead of me.  What luck after all.  I gracefully slam on the breaks and swerve into my new spot, grab my purse, and run inside, relieved that I will not have to face my disappointment all day.  The Chai latte is exactly how I imagined it.

Upon my return back to my car, I pause to revel in the moment and notice a storefront I hadn’t never noticed before: Makeup & Go! (okay now “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” is pulsing through my brain – don’t ask me why) is located just down from the Starbucks at 26th and San Vicente near Brentwood. Floor to ceiling windows showcase the clean, white interior splashed with color throughout. I see vibrant throw pillows on display, make-up stations dress the front of the store, but I can also see hair stations in the back.

Naturally I’m intrigued.  As I go inside, a lovely woman greets me and I kindly ask for a menu of their services.  As a mother of three boys, I know I could use a little pick me up; scanning down their offerings, I’m completely captivated.  I could spend hours here but unfortunately by now 8:15 am — the workday must begin.

Makeup & Go’s hours are fairly reasonable: 8 am-8 pm Tuesday-Friday, 10 am-9 pm Saturday, noon-6 pm Sundays.  Even for a busy working mom like myself. Thank you, parking and coffee gods, for inviting Aphrodite to the party this morning.

I will be there Friday at 5:45 pm trying the GO! Flawless and Bubble Blow Out. Finally: a moment for this mom; I cannot wait. It’s been a while since I have taken the time to take care of me.
