What is the Southern California Lifestyle?

surfer-295x300 What is the Southern California Lifestyle? What do people who live out of state imagine when they think of Southern California? What images pop into their heads?

For those of us who grew up watching our favorite television shows, we often saw scenes that took place in Venice — people rollerblading down the sidewalk, surfing in Malibu, that sort of thing. My guess is that is what people picture in their mind when they think of our lifestyle here, that we all wear bathing suits during the weekday afternoon and drink carrot juice for breakfast. There is some truth to this, for most Angelenos love to be outdoors, and we do tend to be more health-conscious.

What is your quintessential Southern Californian moment — that second when you suddenly realize that you live the sweet life of an Angeleno?

Is it driving PCH with the top down on your convertible, wind blowing through your hair?

Is it that time you reached out your kitchen window in November and plucked a lemon directly from the tree?

Is it that time at the Malibu Starbucks when you sipped from your green tea frappucino while watching the sun set?

Is it that time you got up at 5am on a Saturday in order to get the best plants at the wholesale flower market downtown?

Let us know, in the comments section, what your ultimate Angeleno moment is — no matter how mundane or outrageous. We’d love to hear from you. Meanwhile, the short video below explores some of the outdoor options and excursions available to people who live in Southern California.

Am I missing anything? I welcome your feedback and insight in the comments section below.

Sometimes, when we’re having a very busy week, just being able to take a short walk in your own neighborhood can be restorative. It’s simple, but it makes a difference.

This one is easy, sitting on the sand at Paradise Cove, sipping a cold one, watching Whales AND Dolphins breaching at the same time!

I must say my favorite moments in Los Angeles are spent at the beach. I love to play smash ball on the wet sand and ride my bike along the boardwalk. Now you’re talkin’!

Not many people realize L.A.’s proximity to both the beach and the mountains. During daylight savings, you can hit the slopes of Mt. High, then head back to the beach for a sunset surf in the same day! It’s an incredible experience and one that you couldn’t find anywhere else.
