Santa Monica Mountains: Platinum-Level Care for Premium Pets

Rupert-300x233 Santa Monica Mountains: Platinum-Level Care for Premium PetsLike most guys, I am a dog man. And like most gals, my wife is a cat woman (I would say crazy cat woman, but I might get in trouble for that).

When we first got together, I can’t say I was too thrilled that she already had three cats. I’m sure it had nothing to do with watching her kiss one little feline-furball on the nose and repeatedly tell him he was the “love of her life.” I am the very definition of secure. But I must confess that I came to love her cats, too.

One of the many advantages of living in the Los Angeles area is that there are many options available for pet care. If your pet is like a member of the family and they have any health problem and you are willing to allocate the funds, you can find everything under the sun: heart specialists, eye specialists, 24-hour emergency hospitals …. you can even find holistic veterinarians.

Dr. Dody Tyneway runs the Holistic Veterinary Center in Calabasas. Imagine a zen office area with soothing music and fountains reminiscent of a spa — although maybe that is more to soothe the humans rather than the pets. Services available include making dogs run in a water tank for physical therapy, which is pretty funny to watch — I’d like to see them try this with a cat.

Many things that can be appropriate for humans can also be used on pets, such as chiropractic, herba,l and homeopathic treatments. They also have a dental specialist who seems to have some mystical ability to hypnotize animals without anesthetic — putty in her arms while getting their little teeth scraped –I expected the cats to go ballistic!

I would have never believed that any of this might work, until I saw a complete turnaround for one of our cats after a few bouts of acupuncture (yes – acupuncture for cats).

As the name of the clinic indicates, their approach is to look at the animals as a whole — the Big Picture — and they have been known to more effectively diagnose and manage a problem from this viewpoint, instead of looking just at an individual issue.

And yes, ahem, I am absolutely, positively still a dog man!

Very informative Philippe, and cute picture too. I have a cat myself, a Bengal. The breeder I bought him from is amazing and takes great care of her cats. She is very strict on what they eat so I feed my cat, “Guppie”, Organic Raw Chicken…. Animals sure have it pretty rough these days…ha-ha.
